Insulation Banding
Metal strapping for securing vinyl-faced fiberglass insulation to metal building purlins, pole barn girts, and overhead structural runs. Available with or without self-tapping screws.
What Insulation Banding Does
Insulation banding is a metal strap that runs perpendicular to fiberglass insulation rolls, mechanically holding the insulation in place between purlins, girts, or rafters. It is one of the three core accessories every metal building and pole barn insulation project needs — alongside patch tape and double-sided tape — and it is the only one that addresses long-term mechanical support rather than air/vapor sealing.
Without banding, fiberglass insulation installed on roof and ceiling assemblies will eventually sag under its own weight, especially in spans greater than 4 feet between supports. Sag opens gaps along the top of the insulation profile, breaking the thermal envelope and admitting condensation paths. Banding installed every 4-5 feet prevents this entirely and adds essentially zero ongoing visibility because it sits behind the facing.
The banding sold here is standard galvanized steel strapping pre-cut to lengths matched to typical metal building and pole barn spans. Both bundle options — with self-tapping screws included or without — ship on the same freight pallet as your insulation rolls, so there is no additional freight charge when ordered together.
Insulation Banding Bundles
Banding with Screws
$210.00
Galvanized metal strapping with self-tapping fasteners included. The standard pick for contractors and DIY installers who want a complete bundle that needs no separate hardware purchase.
Banding without Screws
$175.00
Galvanized metal strapping only. Best for contractors with existing fastener inventory or jobs with specific fastener requirements (different shank length, coated heads, etc.).
Pricing is wholesale and the same for every customer regardless of order size. There is no minimum order — banding can be added to an insulation order or ordered standalone with the standard freight rules applied.

How Much Banding Do I Need?
Banding quantity depends on building size and roof complexity. Typical project sizing:
| Building Size | Strap Count | Bundle Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 24x24 garage | ~5 straps | One bundle |
| 30x40 pole barn | ~8 straps | One bundle |
| 40x60 metal building | ~12-15 straps | One bundle |
| 50x80 commercial | ~20-25 straps | Two bundles |
| 50x100 warehouse | ~30+ straps | Two bundles or call for bulk pricing |
Insulation Banding FAQ
What is insulation banding used for?
Insulation banding is metal strapping used to mechanically secure vinyl-faced fiberglass insulation to metal building purlins, girts, and pole barn framing. It prevents insulation from sagging or pulling away from the structure over time, especially on overhead and unsupported runs.
How much insulation banding do I need?
Most metal buildings need one strap every 4 to 5 feet along the purlin direction. A 40x60 metal building roof typically uses 12 to 15 straps. Smaller pole barn shops can run as few as 6 to 8 straps. See the sizing table above for common building sizes.
Does insulation banding come with screws?
Both options are available. The banding-with-screws bundle ($210.00) includes self-tapping fasteners sized for metal building purlins. The banding-only option ($175.00) lets contractors use their own fastener stock.
Can I use insulation banding on a pole barn?
Yes. Pole barn applications are one of the most common uses for insulation banding. Pole barn girt spacing is typically wider than metal building purlin spacing, which makes banding even more important for preventing insulation sag.
Can I install banding on existing insulation?
Yes. Banding can be retrofitted to existing insulation installations that are starting to sag. The strap is installed over the existing facing the same way as a new installation, and patch tape is used to seal the junction afterward.
How does insulation banding ship?
Banding ships on the same LTL freight pallet as your fiberglass insulation rolls when ordered together — no separate freight charge. For standalone banding orders, freight is calculated at order time.
Add Insulation Banding to Your Order
Banding is one of the accessory options on the order page. Add it to your fiberglass insulation order and it ships on the same pallet at no additional freight cost.
